Leveraging Finance for Locally‑led Restoration
by BMZ,FAO and KfW
Climate finance commitments are increasing rapidly, yet capital is not reaching small-scale producers and enterprises in restoration landscapes, where climate mitigation and adaptation impacts are both most needed and can be delivered at scale. The challenge is not a lack of capital or projects, but persistent structural barriers related to pipeline development, financial intermediation, and risk‑sharing mechanisms. Drawing on operational experience from FAO‑implemented projects and partner funds across regions, this session brings together practitioners, investors, and financial institutions to explore what it takes in practice to move from commitments to deployment, and how financial instruments and blended finance structures must evolve to deliver investable and scalable restoration outcomes.
Global Landscape
by Global Landscapes Forum
Session 1 — AI for Climate and Nature Finance
This session highlights how AI is improving sustainable finance by addressing data gaps, reducing due‑diligence costs, and strengthening credibility through better analysis, verification, and risk screening. It also explores how emerging AI‑enabled infrastructure—such as Rio Changemakers—can surface high‑integrity, community‑led projects and better connect them with investors.
Session 2 — From Pipeline to Investment
This session examines how AI and digital tools can help overcome visibility and pipeline challenges that prevent Global South initiatives from accessing climate and nature finance. It brings together government and local project leaders to identify practical tools and partnerships needed to accelerate capital flows to credible, locally led solutions.
